Richard is the firm’s Senior Partner and a key member of the Corporate and Banking & Finance teams. He has a huge range of expertise in corporate matters across multiple sectors, and his main motivation is to get to know clients businesses and their strategic aims as he believes that in this way he is likely to be able to give the best advice he can to clients.

Career

Richard studied Law (LLB) at the University of Leicester before starting his legal career as an Articled Clerk at another local law firm in Hull in 1986, qualifying as a Solicitor in 1987.

He joined Rollits shortly after qualification to work in the Company & Commercial Department has been a key part of the firm ever since. Richard became a Managing Partner in 2006, then Senior Partner in 2015 while still continuing to work on corporate matters.

In 2008 whist serving as Managing Partner, Richard undertook an MBA at Nottingham Law School where he developed an interest in Knowledge Management and continues provides essential leadership to the firm in this important area.

Expertise

Richard has worked in the corporate team since joining Rollits LLP in 1988. In that time he has undertaken a variety of corporate work including flotations, buy-outs, acquisitions & disposals, joint-ventures, banking, restructuring and corporate recovery.

He now spends his time on corporate work (including acquisitions & disposals and joint ventures), tax restructuring of family and owner-managed companies, working closely with the Private Capital team, and banking.

As the most experienced member of the Rollits corporate team, Richard takes a pragmatic and commercial approach in the work that he does for clients. He uses his experience to help to predict issues and to alert clients to likely bumps in the road.

Community

Richard serves as Trustee of and Chair of the Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University and is also a Trustee of Help for Health.
