James is a Partner in the Commercial and IP Team and has experience advising clients on a wide variety of commercial matters.

A key member of the firm’s Education team, James routinely advises our education sector clients on compliance with funding rules, drafts contracts for education subcontractor arrangements and negotiates contracts for providers where they are contacting with other providers, funders or commercial organisations.

One of James’s favourite parts of the job is that he enjoy working with clients to produce tailored solutions for their requirements, with a particular interest in drafting legal documents.

Career

After studying English Language & Linguistics at the University of Durham and completing a Law Degree at the College of Law in York, James joined Rollits as a trainee in 2008 and moved to work in the firm’s commercial and IP team when he qualified in September 2010. James became a partner at Rollits in 2019.

Expertise

James specialises in commercial law, including commercial contracts, website terms and conditions and advice in relation to trade marks, copyright and other intellectual property rights. He also advises clients in relation to data protection issues such as policies and procedures and responding to subject access and freedom of information requests.

Within the education sphere, James’ core work includes advising education sector clients on compliance with funding agreements and drafting, advising on, and negotiating contracts for education providers where they are contracting with other providers, funders or commercial organisations.
