Rollits Partners praised as "Leaders in their Field"

Rollits wins plaudits in leading law directory Chambers & Partners

Seven lawyers from Rollits have been named as "leaders in their field" in the 2012 edition of Chambers - the definitive guide to law firms in the UK.

Chambers UK Guide was first published in 1989 and lists solicitors in many specialist areas of law. The directory`s research of the UK legal profession identifies the leading lawyers and law firms through independent and objective interviews with thousands of lawyers and their clients.

Rollits was praised for the depth and variety of services it offers to clients from corporate/M&A to dispute resolution, employment to intellectual property and was described as having "a strong market presence across the North and the East Midlands …"

Those singled out for praise included Partner, John Lane, who heads the firm`s private Capital Department. John received a top ranking for his work in the private client arena within North East and Yorkshire, and the firm was highlighted for its commercial awareness, and described as "a superb team".

Partner Keith Benton received two recommendations for his work in Intellectual Property and Information Technology and was praised "… because he is up to date, resourceful, commercially minded and advises us in a cost-effective manner." Chambers states "Rollits has a strong IP practice that handles both contentious and non-contentious work, albeit with an emphasis on the latter. The firm has offices in Hull and York, which gives it a good reach into the region, and it also works with clients on a national scale."

George Coyle and Ralph Gilbert were both praised for their work in dispute resolution with the firm described as having "a strong market presence across the North and the East Midlands, and it is celebrated for its record in dispute resolution defence work". In this area, Chambers states "George Coyle receives approbation for his "brilliant commercial attitude." His practice is concerned largely with product liability and breach of warranty claims, and he is increasingly in demand for regulatory defence instructions. Ralph Gilbert has `very strong knowledge of insolvency law and associated matters` and is `fantastic on technical issues,` according to sources."

Neil Franklin was recommended for his work in the agricultural sector and described as being "steeped in rural and agricultural deal making." Chambers said: "This firm offers a commercially driven approach and boasts a long history of acting for farming businesses. Acting from offices in Hull and York, the team advises on land sales, purchases and leases, securities and renewable energy."

Sheridan Ball, a specialist in family law, was singled out as a "Notable Practitioner" and recognised for pioneering mediation within Rollits and for her "spot-on preparation."

Partner Douglas Oliver also received praise. Chambers said: "Douglas Oliver heads the social housing group. He is described as "excellent, responsive, thorough and not afraid to tell you when you`ve made a mistake."

Elsewhere, the firm was recommended for its Corporate/ M&A work in Yorkshire, as well as receiving praise for both Employment and Real Estate work undertaken.

Managing Partner Richard Field said: "Chambers is described as `The definitive guide to law firms in the UK` and it is very heartening to see so many colleagues singled out for praise in the latest edition of the guide particularly so following out recent ranking in the Legal 500."
