Rollits Partners praised as “Leaders in their Field”

Rollits wins plaudits in leading law directory Chambers& Partners

Seven lawyers from Rollits have been named as "leaders intheir field" in the 2012 edition of Chambers - the definitive guideto law firms in the UK.

Chambers UK Guide was first published in 1989 and listssolicitors in many specialist areas of law. The directory`sresearch of the UK legal profession identifies the leading lawyersand law firms through independent and objective interviews withthousands of lawyers and their clients.

Rollits was praised for the depth and variety of services itoffers to clients from corporate/M&A to dispute resolution,employment to intellectual property and was described as having "astrong market presence across the North and the East Midlands…"

Those singled out for praise included Partner, John Lane, whoheads the firm`s private Capital Department. John received a topranking for his work in the private client arena within North Eastand Yorkshire, and the firm was highlighted for its commercialawareness, and described as "a superb team".

Partner Keith Benton received two recommendations for hiswork in Intellectual Property and Information Technology and waspraised "… because he is up to date, resourceful, commerciallyminded and advises us in a cost-effective manner." Chambers states"Rollits has a strong IP practice that handles both contentious andnon-contentious work, albeit with an emphasis on the latter. Thefirm has offices in Hull and York, which gives it a good reach intothe region, and it also works with clients on a nationalscale."

George Coyle and Ralph Gilbert were both praised for theirwork in dispute resolution with the firm described as having "astrong market presence across the North and the East Midlands, andit is celebrated for its record in dispute resolution defencework". In this area, Chambers states "George Coyle receivesapprobation for his "brilliant commercial attitude." His practiceis concerned largely with product liability and breach of warrantyclaims, and he is increasingly in demand for regulatory defenceinstructions. Ralph Gilbert has `very strong knowledge ofinsolvency law and associated matters` and is `fantastic ontechnical issues,` according to sources."

Neil Franklin was recommended for his work in theagricultural sector and described as being "steeped in rural andagricultural deal making." Chambers said: "This firm offers acommercially driven approach and boasts a long history of actingfor farming businesses. Acting from offices in Hull and York, theteam advises on land sales, purchases and leases, securities andrenewable energy."

Sheridan Ball, a specialist in family law, was singled out asa "Notable Practitioner" and recognised for pioneering mediationwithin Rollits and for her "spot-on preparation."

Partner Douglas Oliver also received praise. Chambers said:"Douglas Oliver heads the social housing group. He is described as"excellent, responsive, thorough and not afraid to tell you whenyou`ve made a mistake."

Elsewhere, the firm was recommended for its Corporate/M&A work in Yorkshire, as well as receiving praise for bothEmployment and Real Estate work undertaken.

Managing Partner Richard Field said: "Chambers is describedas `The definitive guide to law firms in the UK` and it is veryheartening to see so many colleagues singled out for praise in thelatest edition of the guide particularly so following out recentranking in the Legal 500."
