Rollits help Cooplands save jobs

We are pleased to have advised Coopland & Son (Scarborough) Limited, the Scarborough-based bakery business, on its acquisition of 22 shops, a fleet of around 10 retail vans and a 50,000 sq. ft bakery in County Durham from the administrators of Peters Cathedral Bakers Limited.

The deal sees Cooplands continue its expansion drive by increasing its store count to over 130 shops, in addition to its 11 cafes, located in and around Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Teesside.

The deal saves 208 jobs.

Paul Coopland, Managing Director of Cooplands, will now lead the rebranding of the Peters` business. He said:

"This is an exciting acquisition. It has safeguarded many jobs in and around Durham and the North East and will enable Cooplands to continue to expand beyond its existing boundaries. We were pleased to work with Rollits. They provided expert corporate finance and legal advice, as they did on our acquisitions of Skeltons of Hull, Ainsleys of Leeds and Woodheads of Scarborough."

The Rollits` team was led by corporate partner Nasim Sharf assisted by Julian Wild (corporate finance) and included Glenn Craft (property), Donna Ingleby (employment), Craig Engleman (pensions) and Kate Dixon (corporate).

Nasim said:

"Rollits has developed a strong reputation for working with a wide range of high quality food companies and we are delighted to continue to work with Cooplands (Scarborough) as it continues to invest and grow."
