Rollits choose winner of Rollits Art Award 2012

We are pleased to announce that Phil Entwistle has been awarded the inaugural "Rollits Art Award 2012" at the School of Art and Design, Hull College, for his painting `Deltaic Sandstone`.

Phil is on a Professional Practice Programme which offers a range of courses for mature students in the 19+ age category. His paintings explore the physical processes of the Earth`s surface, in particular the geology of northern England. This painting of Deltaic Sandstone is an example from the Yorkshire Coast and is the latest in an increasingly ambitious series of works.

The standard of work at the College was of such a high standard that the work of four other students, Viktor Staskevicius, Elizabeth Hayes, Karolina Badas and Fiona Caley, were also selected as `Highly Commended`.

The School of Art and Design is located at Park Street and it`s excellent onsite facilities include multimedia graphic design suites, purpose built workshops dedicated to 3D/spatial design, jewellery design and ceramics. Specialist Art and Design facilities also include the industry standard photographic studio with associated digital editing suites, fine art studios, textile work rooms with state of the art equipment including computerised dobby looms and fashion and clothing studios/workshops.

This centre is complemented by the Hull School of Art and Design building at the Queen`s Gardens site.

Pat Coyle, Client Relations Director at Rollits LLP said:

"We have been working with The School of Art and Design, Hull College on a variety of projects for some time now and we were delighted to sponsor this award to highlight the achievements of the art students at Park Street. We viewed the work of all of the students - everything from ceramics to textiles - at their end of year show and the standard of work impressed us so much that we found it very difficult to choose the winner.

"After hours of deliberation, we finally chose Phil`s painting as our eventual winner, and recommended four further pieces which we nominated as `Highly Commended`.

Isabel Willock Head of School, School of Art and Design, Hull College commented:

"We are immensely proud of the quality of work being produced by Phil and the other students at the School. External recognition for their efforts in the form of the Rollits Art Award 2012 is something which will help them to stand out from their peers in what remains a competitive marketplace."
