Macmillan Charity Race Day at York Racecourse

Katrina and John Lane with Chris Drinkall as "Hero"

On Saturday, 14 June 2014, a team of 25 volunteers from Rollits gave up their time to help with fundraising at the Macmillan Race Day at York Racecourse raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team were at the racecourse all day and undertook a variety of tasks from selling raffle tickets to bucket collections. One team member, Chris Drinkall, even volunteered to dress up as the charity's mascot and did a superb job as "Hero"!

The Macmillan Race Day at York Racecourse is the charity's single biggest fundraising event in this region, and has now raised almost £6 million to ensure that no one should have to face cancer alone.

This fabulous day at the racecourse was a huge success and this year the sum raised in one day exceeded £340,000.

Macmillan was founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan and is a registered charity.  They provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care for all those diagnosed with the disease.

Partner John Lane said "We were delighted to be given the opportunity to help Macmillan with their fundraising activities at the Macmillan Race Day in York again this year."

"I am personally very grateful for the hard work and commitment that everybody put in on Saturday. The support that all our volunteers gave on the day made a huge difference to the cash collection and is greatly appreciated by Macmillan."
