Changes to Employment Tribunal Rules

As of 5 April 2012 the following changes to the Employment Tribunal Rules announced by the Government in November 2011 will come into effect:

1. Providing for witness statements to stand as evidence in chief and to be taken as read.

2. Giving Tribunals the power to order a party to pay witness's expenses

3. Increasing the upper limit on deposit costs to £1,000 and costs orders to £20,000.

The changes will apply to claims issued on or after 6 April 2012 and the qualifying period for unfair dismissal increase from one to two years, however, this will only affect employees whose employment starts on or after 6 April 2012.
