Effective decision making, holding productive meetings and the role of the Chair

Effective governance is vital to promote public, funders’ and stakeholders’ trust and confidence in charities and should promote (and not hinder) effective operations.
Effective decision making and holding productive meetings are imperative for the smooth operation of charity business and in order for the charity’s trustees to set strategy and ensure that their charity meets its objectives for the public benefit.
Unfortunately, on occasions charity trustees’ meetings can be long and frustrating, particularly where trustees are considering difficult decisions or where there is disagreement within the organisation.
We will explore common issues encountered with trustees’ meetings, consider how meetings can be held more effectively and the impact that a well drafted constitution and a good Chair can have on holding a productive meeting and the organisation’s overall governance.
