Top quality training with a first class firm
From here you can access details of any opportunities within the firm as well as graduate recruitment and information about our work experience programme.
With offices in Hull and York we have an excellent knowledge of the regional marketplace, but our loyal client base extends throughout the UK.
Highly regarded as a commercial practice, we have an enviable client list including well known national and international names and work with a range of businesses from major PLCs to small private companies and substantial charitable organisations and institutions.
Our policy is to employ top quality lawyers both through trainee recruitment and recruitment from outside of the firm. We offer our lawyers a high quality of work equal to that offered by firms in the major legal centres of Leeds, Newcastle and London, combined with a quality of life that such cities cannot match.
We are Lexcel accredited and as such we proactively support and facilitate continuous training and development for all our staff, and offer attractive salaries and benefits, which recognise particular skills and experience.
We are always keen to hear from lawyers in any discipline who feel they can make a real contribution to our continued success and development.
Rollits is an equal opportunities employer.
Please note that applications for a Period of Recognised Training starting September 2020 are now closed.
"Rollits provide their trainees with varied and interesting work, with the result that every day is both challenging and rewarding. The firm are very keen to involve trainees with matters and clients at an early stage and this had made for an enjoyable and rewarding experience."
We recruit two or three trainee solicitors each year. Our standards of training are recognised as being of the highest calibre and we are proud that at the end of their time with us, our trainees go on to become skilled and highly motivated qualified solicitors.
We do not believe in engaging several trainees and then cherry picking the best at the end of their Period of Recognised Training. We look to engage the right people from the outset, with a view to them enjoying a long and fulfilling career with us.
We consider that trainee solicitors are the future of our firm - which is proven by the fact that many of our partners and senior lawyers trained at Rollits.
What will you do?
You will be based in the Hull office, but may be required to spend time at York.
We expect trainee solicitors to become a valuable member of the Rollits team from day one. Trainees at Rollits learn by doing, by being involved, and by taking responsibility. Our training contract is split into four seats, each of six months. You will gain experience in company and commercial, dispute resolution and property, and may also have the opportunity of spending time in our private capital department.
You will also be expected to join in with the firm's many and varied business development activities.
What will we do?
We will give you first class training incorporating real work, client contact and top quality experience, and support you during this key stage in your career.
Trainees always sit with a qualified lawyer, sometimes a partner, who will supervise you on a day to day basis. In each seat you will be assigned a trainee supervisor who will ensure that things run smoothly for you, and who will keep the training principal fully informed of your progress. We also assign a training "buddy" to first year trainees, who are usually newly qualified lawyers who have recently experienced the demands of the training contract and can offer you informal support and advice.
You will be subject to informal progress reviews on a regular basis, and by more formal appraisals twice in each seat.
Continuing professional development (including the professional skills course) is provided for you through internal and external seminars and workshops.
Who do we want?
Students will need to be able to begin a Period of Recognised Training in September 2021 having completed (and passed) a law degree and LPC or academic non-law degree, GDL, and LPC by that date.
We are looking for candidates with the equivalent of three grade Bs at A level, and if you have not already done so, you must be on track to obtain a 2:1 or above in your degree.
You must have good written and oral communications skills.
We value commercial awareness, and the ability to demonstrate commitment to Rollits and its business region.
Above all we are looking for candidates with the right attitude and who are motivated and enthusiastic about a career in the law.
