Stuart has over ten years’ post-qualification experience in both local government and private practice in the areas of planning, highways and rights of way.

He has a thorough and comprehensive understanding of planning law and practice and meticulously keeps up to date with ongoing developments in this area. Attentive and responsive to the needs and requirements of clients Stuart is able to offer clear, practical and commercial advice on planning related matters in order to help clients achieve their required objectives.

Stuart enjoys using his legal skills to help and assist clients on planning and development related matters. He likes the varied and diverse nature of work in these areas and the challenges involved on a day to day basis. He gains strong satisfaction in progressing matters that help to initiate development and thus directly contribute to the enhancement of the built environment. He also appreciates undertaking work that contributes directly to the wellbeing and prosperity of local communities.

Career

Upon qualifying as a solicitor in 2010 Stuart worked as a planning solicitor in local government for five and a half years in positions at Newcastle City Council, Calderdale Council and Barnsley Council. Since November 2015 Stuart has worked in private practice and in this time has developed his skills gained working in local government to assist landowners, house builders and developers on a wide range of planning and development related matters.

Expertise

He has gained broad experience in dealing with issues in respect of proposed developments including planning agreements, judicial review, planning enforcement, proposed lawful development and planning policy.

Stuart has advised landowners, developers, investors, lenders and housebuilders on such matters. In addition, he has also experience working on planning promotion agreements and conditional purchase contracts.
