Rollits help Cooplands of Scarborough expand

Local baker`s success is a boost for the region`seconomy

Rollits has advised Coopland & Son (Scarborough) Limitedon their recent acquisition of 18 Woodheads shops.

When Cooplands secured a deal earlier this month to take over18 of the Woodhead bakery shops after they fell intoadministration, it marked another step in the success of thecompany and excellent news for the economy of Hull & the EastRiding.

Since opening their first store in Scarborough back in 1885,the business has expanded to cover an area stretching fromLincolnshire to Teesside, and from the East coast to Leeds. Nowwith 111 shops and 9 cafes, Cooplands is one of the region'sbiggest employers.

Cooplands is now the UK`s third largest retailbakery.

Nasim Sharf, corporate partner at Rollits who led the dealsaid "We have a strong association with Cooplands and this was anexcellent opportunity to work together again to secure some of theWoodheads` bakery stores.

"We helped them acquire 10 shops in Leeds from Ainsleys lastyear and in 2007 and also when they took over Skeltons in Hull witha large production site and additional 35 shops."

Coopland`s Managing Director and great grandson of thecompany`s founder, Paul Coopland said "We are thrilled that inthese difficult economic times we are able to expand our number ofstores, reaching increasing numbers of customers and creatingemployment opportunities in the region."

Rollits legal team who worked on the deal with Mr Sharf wereGlenn Craft (property) and Julian Wild (food).
