Join us for a seminar on the employment aspects of mental health in the workplace presented by our specialist Employment team in conjunction with Edwards & Pearce and HEY Mind
Mental illness is the largest single cause of disability in the UK and the range of mental health conditions can make its management difficult and challenging for employers.
Mental health problems cost employers in the UK £30 billion a year through lost production, recruitment and absence
Mental ill health touches everyone in one way or another. Whether personally, professionally or through friends and family, the damage that can be caused from a variety of conditions including out-of-control stress, anxiety, eating disorders, OCD, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder or depression.
Businesses increasingly recognise that each employee’s mental wellbeing is just as important as their physical health as more and more employees are afflicted with mental health problems. Some estimates suggest that, at any one time, roughly one in four people are touched by mental health issues.
Employers have obligations to employees in respect of their health and more needs to be done to ensure that mental health is appropriately dealt with under policies and procedures embedded in the workplace.
Topics to be covered include:
- Recognising mental health issues in the workplace and making reasonable adjustments
- The importance of a positive wellbeing culture at work
- Dealing with absence caused by mental health
