Gillian is a first year trainee at Rollits in Hull.
Her current seat is in the Property Department.
Below, she gives us an account of what it's like to be a trainee at Rollits, along with her description of a typical day at work! |
My first seat is in the Commercial Property department in Hull. Having studied Commercial Property as an elective on the LPC and thoroughly enjoyed it I was eagerly anticipating my first seat. I have not been disappointed. In the short period I have been here I have already seen a wide variety of aspects of commercial property. I have been involved in the first registration of a property during which I saw some very old and fascinating deeds, drafting various Land Registry forms and Stamp Duty Land Tax forms and several research tasks.
My day tends to start around 8.30am when I check my emails and make myself a list to prioritise my tasks for the day. I tend to receive other tasks from members of the department throughout the day and often re-prioritise to accommodate this. The work I do differs from day to day but tends to include completing forms, research and administrative tasks. I usually finish work around 5.30pm but this varies dependant on the amount of work I have.
I would recommend Rollits to anybody applying for a training contract. The staff at Rollits have made me feel very welcome and I feel able to ask questions freely and ask for help if necessary. This is something which I think is very important in your first seat as it helps to build up your knowledge and confidence. Rollits are very keen to involve trainees from the start and invited us to the JLD ball before we commenced our training so that we could meet the current trainees. Rollits also invited me in for a day in the Easter prior to starting in September to help me familiarise myself with the firm which made the first day much less daunting. Having grown up in the Hull area I am really pleased that I have returned. The city has changed a lot since I left and the St Stephens development and others have improved the shopping and leisure facilities in the city.
